Meet Sophie Massey who’s worked at The Handbag Spa as a Workshop Assistant for five months.
Outside of The Handbag Spa, Sophie’s a professional abstract artist (skills which help her hugely in her role here at the Spa), today we find out a little bit more about Sophie and what she does in the spa to fix the beautiful bags we treat for you.
Tell us about a day in your life:
I get to work around 9am. My first job is to organise which handbags I will work on that day, then I colour match pigments to the handbags & take them into the spray booth to airbrush the pigments onto the bags.
I then spend the majority of the day working on colour restorations and colour touch ups. Colour restore is where I match the colour to the original (often these have faded or have been damaged) and a colour touch-up is a smaller job that involves touching up areas that have colour loss like scratches in the leather & minor fading etc.
After work, I paint abstract art to relax!
What do you enjoy most about your job?
I love the challenge of colour matching pigments to the handbags & colour changing handbags to black – they look so nice, clean, and brand new afterwards! I also enjoy working with my colleagues as we have a lovely team here.
What’s been the most memorable project you’ve worked on?
I worked on a stunning Louis Vuitton suitcase that was owned by somebody very very famous and it looked fab when it was finished!
If you could own any designer handbag or pair of shoes, what would it be and why?
I love the leather drawstring backpack by The Row from the Spring 2018 collection (the Olsen twins label) – I love the look & feel of tan aniline leathers.
